Local look: Ban the nudes?
A campus debate about the proper place for nude art is now headed across Idaho’s Twin Falls, literally and figuratively. The Idaho blurb in this morning’s Renek Gaszewski “Across the USA” roundup sums up the controversy:
“The College of Southern Idaho is banning nude art from its annual student art show this year after receiving complaints from community members and some students. Instead, the college will have the paintings and sculptures of nudes displayed at an off-campus show. CSI President Jerry Beck said student art that’s adult in nature should be displayed as long as it’s in the right setting.”
The Twin Falls Times-News has more details on the local debate, including descriptions of some of the art headed to the off-campus show. “Virgin Accosted by Four Males” shows a young, nude woman surrounded by Dobermans, the paper reports. The page for the campus gallery not showing the nude art recommends adults preview all exhibits before bringing children.
Also in ‘Across the USA’ today: The North Carolina brief features a man who collects a different kind of art: used lottery tickets. The Daily Advance has the full story on Dennis Morse. He claims to have more than 250,000 tickets.
